Celtic Twilight brings together contemporary and traditional music from Ireland and the British Isles. The program includes a cultural events calendar and "ceili" segment. "Ceili" (pronounced KAY-lee) is a Gaelic word meaning "party" or "dance." The Ceili segment consists of several Irish dance tunes: jigs or reels.
Celtic Twilight already existed when Gail join the show as host in 1991. Gail works in the Boston public schools and didn't come from a radio background. But she was a Celtic music enthusiast and an active WUMB volunteer before starting out as an on-air host.
Gail was exposed to Celtic culture throughout her life. "Music was pretty important around the house. I listened to all the Irish programs on the radio, and my parents were always fans of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem; when they were on the Ed Sullivan show, it was huge." The family often attended concerts and events at Irish social clubs.
